8/8 ECO-HIKE: CAPE LOOKOUT, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Hike along a wooded forest trail with several views of the ocean to the tip of Cape Lookout. This is reputed to be one of the best views on the Coast, so be sure to bring your binoculars! Oregon’s coast is gorgeous & this is one of the best ways to see it. When it’s hot in Portland it’s usually cool on the coast. Distance: 9.4 miles roundtrip. Elevation Gain: gradual 1200 feet. TRIP LEADER: Tom Stanwood, who has been hiking & leading hikes for more than 30 years, and been an active member of the famed Mazamas hiking/climbing club for 25 years.

8/8 & 8/15 MEN’S GARDENING & FOOD SUSTAINABILITY TEAM: AUGUST PLANTING FOR FALL HARVEST & OVER-WINTER CROPS Saturdays weekly, 10 am- 1 pm. Soil amendment & planting seeds for fall & winter crops, cover crops for unused garden beds, & sheet mulching. Learn basics of sustainable gardening by actually working on one another’s gardens -- guided by visiting master gardeners. Donation: $8-$20 sliding scale benefits Manifest. RSVP in advance to get directions to carpool or location of garden of the week. Facilitated by Bryan Rollins.

8/9 MAPPING YOUR FUTURE: 5 Essential steps to Moving Forward with Your Life, Sunday, 2-5pm. This 3 hour workshop implements five steps that are necessary to make any movement towards a more fulfilling life. The workshop will provide direction, take stock of where you are, and firm-up commitments. You will explore 8 areas of your life (e.g., health, relationships, work, finances, spirituality, play, etc.) where action needs to be taken and change will be seen. Each participant will exit with a powerful, clear and concise strategy for making powerful changes in his life. $10-30 sliding scale donation. Facilitated by Thom Cathcart, certified Holistic Life Coach.

8/10-8/14 FREE MORNING YOGA & MEDITATION, Monday-Friday weekly, 6:00-6:30 am Breath Practices; 6:30-7:00 am Meditation, 7:00-8:30 am Yoga. Beginning & intermediate students learn to create & sustain a daily yoga &/or meditation practice (Saddhana). You can attend any parts of the morning practice, depending on your schedule & interests. Taught by Bart Church, who has studied Iyengar, Raja Yoga, & Ayurveda for 25 years and taught therapeutic yoga for more than 16 years. 1st Class FREE for newcomers.

8/10 WANDERLUST CYCLING:, Mondays weekly, 6:30 pm. Explore Portland by bike, get some easy exercise, have dinner & good conversation, and enjoy an optional hot tub at Common Ground or the Kennedy School. Facilitated by Bart Church, who loves exploring Portland’s hidden treasures by bike. $5-$15 sliding scale.

8/10 Free CORE STRENGTH YOGA, Mondays weekly, 6:15-7:30 pm. New spring semester kicks off 3/23 with a special class on cleansing & getting stronger & more flexible as we move into Spring Fever. Beginning & intermediate students in reasonably good shape learn powerful, simple stretches to develop your strength & flexibility in your abs; have fun developing your spinal and abdominal muscles & energy. Taught by Charles Airey, who has studied Kripalu Yoga for more than 20 years, and Pilates. 1st class FREE for newcomers. INFO: Charles 503-223-8822 x1

8/10 FIND WORK & ABUNDANCE GROUP, Mondays weekly, 7:45-9:30 pm. Men committed to creating work that is both fulfilling & brings them abundance meet each week to support one another in: 1) clarifying your work vision, 2) defining what your strengths & passions are & how you can turn them into a great job, 3) deciding what you can do to address challenges & negative attitudes, 4) what support you’re willing to ask for & give this week, 5) what your next steps are this week for moving towards your vision. The group will also learn together crucial job creation skills like: informational interviewing, networking, resume writing, internet research, etc. Facilitated by Thom Cathcart, life coach.

8/11 MEN’S MEDITATION GROUP: INTRO TO GROUNDING & CENTERING MEDITATION, Tuesday, 7-9 pm, Experience the basics of Grounding & Centering Meditation. Practice simple, powerful spiritual techniques. Learn to ground yourself as spirit in your body. Anchor yourself in the real world to consciously create your reality with poise and certainty. Reduce stress by releasing pressures and outside influences. Learn to center your attention inward. Find your spiritual perspective where you can see the truth about anything, see and heal your beliefs and creative energies. FACILITATOR: Quinton Carlson learned to meditate at the CDM Psychic Institute in 1992 and has meditated daily since. Donation: $8-$20 sliding scale.

8/12 MEN’S WALKING GROUP, Wednesdays weekly, 6:00-7:00 pm. Have fun, get easy exercise, AND enjoy great conversation with other men on a beautiful walk around Portland’s great neighborhoods & parks. $8-$15sliding scale donation; no one turned away for lack of funds; work-study available.

8/12 FREE MEN’S THERAPEUTIC YOGA, Wednesdays weekly, 6:15-8:15 pm. Learn to use yoga to address stress and related back pain, depression, insomnia, digestive problems, and other wellness goals such as losing weight and increasing calm & focus. Instructor Bart Church has studied for more than 25 years & taught for 15 years. 1st class FREE for newcomers.

8/15 MEN’S REIKI & ENERGY HEALING CIRCLE, 3rd Saturday monthly, 7-9 pm. Discover your potential to allow fundamental life force to move through you to heal yourself and others. Learn about several techniques used to channel life force and how they enhance other healing methods and provide an essential foundation for well-being. Sensing energy flow is not abstract or difficult; anyone can do it, and thereby create a calm, open, healing atmosphere for yourself and others. Co-facilitated by Reiki Practitioners & Energy Healers Doug Keeney and Rob Douglass, who seek to resolve the confusion and mystery about energy healing and help make it practical, powerful and fun.
