Warning: Lime Ridge is a little hilly. It's not like climbing Mt. Everest, but it isn't a mall walk, either. Let's meet up at the parking lot off of Treat. The lot is between Cowell and San Miquel Roads. If you are coming from 680/Oak Grove, you'll need to make a U-turn to get to the parking lot. My cell phone will be on me and ready to take your call if you need directions or are running late! 925-864-1622.

Thanks to Toni for the great idea! This is a hike sponsered by the EBRPD. From their catalog: "Learn about the diversity of oaks that give us a grand pallete of colors. Bring lunch, sunscreen and water for this moderate, 4-mile hike. This is a drop in program; no registration is required. For information, call (510) 525-2233." Meet at the Bear Creek Staging Area off Bear Creek Road. The directions from BAHiker are as follows: " Getting there: From CA 24 in Contra Costa County, exit Moraga/Orinda (exit 9). Drive north on Camino Pablo Road for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Bear Creek Road. Drive on Bear Creek about 4.4 miles, to the park entrance on the right side of the road. After passing the entrance kiosk, continue straight to the parking lot. Trailhead details: Parking fee of $5 charged when entrance kiosk is staffed. $2 dog fee. Lots of parking. Pit toilets on site, but no drinking water. Maps available at the information signboard near the start of the trail. There is no direct public transportation to this trailhead, but you can walk (or cycle) into the park from BART: visit the Transit Info website for details. There are no designated handicapped parking spots at this parking lot, but the initial stretch of Old Briones Road is wheelchair accessible. " This sounds super fun and hope lots of you can make it. Family and friends are welcome.

Yet another event suggested by Hyun! Here's the details: "This free walking tour is organized by SF City Guides. Most tours last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Let's meet at Newhall Park in Concord for a 1-2.5 mile stroll. We'll meet at the parking lot off of Turtle Creek Road (off of Ayers), and I'll have a hound dog and a stubby, foxy looking dog, and probably my visiting Midwestern mother with me, so look out for us. Please call my mobile around the time of the walk if you are lost or late--925-864-1622.

(I'm basically recycling my description from 3 months ago if this looks familiar) Kyoko's assessment of this almost three mile walk around the Lafayette Reservoir is "pretty tame except for a couple of hills," so I hope everyone is willing to tackle a lap (or two, if you are occasionally crazy like Elizabeth) around this paved stroll through the oak trees. The parking situation the last time we tried this at 9am stunk, so I hope that meeting at 8:30 is better. The address is at 3849 Mt. Diablo Rd, Lafayette, and it costs $1/hour to park on the grounds with meters that only accept quarters. Walking around the Reservoir takes somewhere between 40 minutes to an hour, plus we'll probably need additional time to gab before and afterward. Alternatively, you can park on Mt. Diablo Rd and walk the half mile uphill to the area to avoid paying. We'll meet by the parking lot by the Reservoir near the toll booth (which is only for those who want to stay all day, and the passes cost $6, so save your change).

Let's meet up at 6:15 for an evening jaunt on the Iron Horse Trail or Contra Costa Canal Trail. Meet up by the restroom/playground (I think they are right next to each other!) and then decide where to go from there!

Thanks to Hyun for another great suggestion! This free walking tour is organized by SF City Guides. Most tours last 1-1/2 to 2 hours. From their web site: http://www.sfcitygui des.org/desc.html?to ur=76 "Explore the legacy of Adolph Sutro's Arbor Day celebrations (and discover the remains of Ishi's 'cave'), stroll a city reservoir, and more. A long, steep, strenuous walk, but taken at an easy pace and rewarded with spectacular views! Tour given by Emmet McDonagh. Meet at the northwest corner of Stanyan and Frederick." More provided info: "Where: Stanyan Street and Frederick Street (at the northwest corner) San Francisco, CA 94117 I encourage you to carpool or take public transportation. From Walnut Creek BART to Stanyan and Frederick, the travel time is 1 hr 10 min (includes estimated walk & wait times) and the cash fare is $5.50, according to 511.org." This looks like a super cool hike that I hope you can make!

You, Hyun, and other fabulous females, meeting at the gazebo at Civic Park in downtown Walnut Creek, getting some exercise, enjoying a fall evening, having fun. Sounds pretty good, huh? Meetup around 5:50pm and except a 2 mile walk and about 30-40 minutes of walking enjoyment. Parking generally isn't a problem this time of day in WC in this area.
